Prisoners' Legal Services of New York is a longstanding advocate for incarcerated and formerly incarcerated individuals. Staff and volunteers have committed themselves to ensuring justice for incarcerated individuals for more than fifty years. Their services extend across the state of New York and cover a wide variety of potential legal issues. Their mission is to investigate claims of abuse and wrongful conviction, represent clients directly, and educate community stakeholders. Currently, Prisoners' Legal Services of New York maintains five physical offices and a total staff of 49 legal experts who cover a combined 41 areas of practice. The organization also operates six separate programs. Programs include assistance for loved ones who have difficulty visiting incarcerated individuals, support for pre-release and reentry, pro bono legal services for qualifying individuals, support for immigrants and assistance ensuring access to educational opportunities during incarceration.
