Oakland County Conviction Integrity Unit
Description
The Oakland County Conviction Integrity Unit is a subdivision of the Oakland County District Attorney's office. Their purpose is to act in an investigatory role and to establish the credibility of all claims of innocence filed with the District Attorney's office. The unit first determines whether or not the petition is eligible for review. Individuals must demonstrate that they are currently incarcerated and serving time as a result of conviction through the Oakland County Superior Court. They must also present fresh evidence that has not been previously considered by the court and show how it relates to their claim of innocence. Petitioners may also explain how the use of new technologies can shed valuable insight on evidence already presented in court. Whenever necessary, the Conviction Integrity Unit provides a thorough review of the case to the District Attorney along with an informed recommendation for further action. However, staff in the unit do not have the authority to make rulings or pronouncements on the cases they investigate.
