13th Judicial Circuit Conviction Review Unit

Section Title

13th Judicial Circuit Conviction Review Unit

The 13th Judicial Circuit Conviction Review Unit is a subdivision of the justice system tasked with investigating individuals who claim innocence. The unit is only able to consider cases involving individuals who remain incarcerated, and who have been convicted of a crime. Their function is not to consider appeals that request a reevaluation of evidence or to assist with the exoneration of deceased individuals. For those who do make legal claims of innocence following conviction, the Conviction Review Unit is assigned to investigate evidence and its relevance to the case. This evidence must provide legal grounds to revisit a conviction, and it must be new to the case. Individuals who wish to file a claim with the office may complete and mail a petition or submit an online petition via the Conviction Review Unit website. For more information about the work of the Conviction Review Unit in the 13th Judicial Circuit, individuals are encouraged to contact the organization directly.
