Boulder County Conviction Integrity Unit
Description
The Conviction Integrity Unit is a part of the Boulder County District Attorney's office that looks into claims of innocence. The mission of the Conviction Integrity Unit is to collaborate with the Boulder County District Attorney's office solely as an investigatory unit. They first focus on the reliability of claims of injustice by conducting a full investigation for all claims wherein individuals with convictions offer clear evidence to support their claims of innocence, offer valid proof that they were wrongfully convicted or otherwise substantiate their claims of injustice while interacting with the Boulder County justice system. Staff in the office determine the reliability of formal claims and consider whether or not plea bargaining directly impacted the outcome of the case. Those claims of innocence that are proven by fresh evidence may result in an official recommendation that the District Attorney reopen the case and identify whether or not evidence of injustice merits further action.
