Contra Costa County Conviction Integrity Unit
Description
The Contra Costa County Conviction Integrity Unit is a subdivision of the Contra Costa County District Attorney's office. Their mission is to ensure that all cases tried through the Contra Costa County Superior Court result in justice. They pursue this mission be conducting full and thorough investigations into all credible claims of innocence, wrongful conviction or excessive sentencing. While the unit operates out of the District Attorney's office, their investigations are entirely unbiased. In order to have a case reviewed by the unit, individuals must present new evidence relevant to the case or demonstrate how new technologies can be used to process evidence presented during the initial trial. The Conviction Integrity Unit does not consider cases currently under appeal or related to individuals who are no longer serving time. They are also not directly affiliated with the Innocence Project. For more information or to request a review of case files, individuals may contact the office directly or through a defense attorney.
