Cumberland Legal Aid Clinic

Description

Cumberland Legal Aid Clinic is a service organization operated out of the University of Maine School of Law. The clinic is serviced by students from the School of Law, providing students ample opportunity to work with community members in need while offering individuals access to legal services when they may otherwise not have the funds to afford them. Clients of the Cumberland Legal Aid Clinic must prove low income status based on eligibility guidelines. According to the organization website, individuals are responsible for a $10 administrative fee. To qualify for services, individuals must demonstrate a household income within the organization guidelines, reside within the service area and approach the clinic when they are available for new clients. Student attorneys are qualified to offer services related to criminal and civil cases, as well as juvenile court cases and family legal matters. Clients receive both legal advice and, when necessary, direct representation in court.
