Girls Embracing Mothers
Description
Girls Embracing Mothers is a nonprofit organization committed to uplifting girls with incarcerated mothers in the Dallas area. Staff and volunteers understand the importance of intervention and support for girls with incarcerated mothers in order to prevent intergenerational incarceration and long term trauma. They operate two core programs for girls: The Pearl Program and The Diamond Program. The Pearl Program partners with women's facilities in Gatesville, Texas to ensure that girls have regular access to their mothers via in-person visitation. Participants experience extended visitation hours and structured activities that foster the mother-daughter relationship. Girls Embracing Mothers continues to support participants after mothers are released back into the community to help strengthen maternal bonds. The Diamond Program offers girls with incarcerated mothers an opportunity to build character and learn how to make positive life choices, as well as access to a community of peers who understand the difficulty of living with an incarcerated mother.
