Grant County Alternative Courts is a subdivision of the Indiana justice system that offers alternatives to incarceration. The goal of these court divisions is to reduce incarceration and offer intervention services to certain individuals to help minimize the negative impacts of entering the justice system. The Drug Court is focuses on rehabilitation and recovery services for individuals with a documented history of substance abuse. Individuals who participate in the Drug Court partake in treatment for chemical dependence, random drug screenings, regularly scheduled appearances in court and frequent check-ins with a probation officer as an alternative to incarceration. Family Recovery Court is specifically for individuals with documented substance abuse who children enter the Child in Need of Services department. Participants of this court receive assistance recovering access to children, including programming to address chemical dependence and conflict management.
