Harris County Conviction Integrity Unit
Description
The Harris County Conviction Integrity Unit is part of the Harris County District Attorney's office and looks into actual claims of innocence. Though working in collaboration with the District Attorney's office, the unit conducts unbiased and complete investigation into all credible claims of innocence. Their first priority is to determine whether or not a case qualifies for review within the unit. Please note that the Conviction Integrity Unit does not handle appeals or accusations of prosecutorial misconduct. Their sole purpose is to consider cases where individuals present new and valid evidence of their innocence, or otherwise demonstrate proof of wrongful conviction. Individuals may also present evidence from the original case if they can demonstrate how new technologies allow for relevant testing not available at the time of conviction. For more information about the specific work of the unit or to submit a formal claim of innocence, individuals or their attorneys may contact the Conviction Integrity Unit directly.
