Kings County Post-Conviction Justice Bureau
Description
The Kings County Post-Conviction Justice Bureau is a division of the Brooklyn District Attorney's Office centered on improving justice. A first of its kind, the bureau was developed in order to act as a balance for the justice system. They do this through two separate units within the bureau. The Parole and Clemency Unit investigates policies related to court supervision, parole and clemency, then makes recommendations to legislators. The bureau also operates a separate division that centers requests to seal criminal conviction records. Kings County Post-Conviction Justice Bureau staff also research and recommend sentencing reform to address excessive sentencing in the district. Staff within the bureau believe that a key element of criminal justice is instituting policies that properly support the rule of law while also centering rehabilitation and a successful return to the community.
