Louisiana Prisoner Reentry Initiative

Louisiana Prisoner Reentry Initiative

Description

Louisiana Prisoner Reentry Initiative (LA-PRI) is a reentry resource for incarcerated individuals released back into Jefferson and St. Tammany parishes. This program is offered though United Way of Southeast Louisiana, an organization that has been dedicated to eradicating poverty in Louisiana since their inception in 1924. A continuum of care is offered through their extensive three phase approach, which begins from the time of incarceration through the transition and reintegration stage, and aftercare in the community. Successful completion of the program increases the likelihood that participants will contribute positively in their communities, find and secure gainful employment, locate a safe living environment, stay out of prison, and have the resources and education they need to more forward in life. A task that is increasingly challenging in Louisiana, as they rank number one state in imprisonment rate.
