Maryland Legal Aid is the largest legal services provider in Maryland that offers legal counsel at no cost to clients. The organization offers direct legal services and is considered the third largest legal firm in Maryland. As a private, nonprofit law firm, Maryland Legal Aid offers a wide array of pro bono civil legal services to low-income individuals statewide, including Baltimore City and Maryland’s 23 counties, through a network of physical office locations. The organization manages civil cases involving a diverse range of legal matters that include child custody, housing, public benefits, consumer law and criminal record expungements. Attorneys help to eliminate barriers related to gaining child custody, securing housing and procuring employment. Maryland Legal Aid is not equipped to assist with criminal legal matters at this time. Maryland Legal Aid's services include direct representation in federal and state trial and appellate courts, limited advice and counsel, and referrals to other community resources.
