Neighborhood Defender Service San Antonio is a brand new initiative to improve access to public defenders for undocumented immigrants. The organization was founded specifically to offer representation and legal services to individuals residing in the United States who are not full citizens and who are arrested as part of the State of Texas' Operation Lone Star program. The main office is located in San Antonio, but Neighborhood Defender Service operates a satellite office in Del Rio as well. Attorneys with the organization are equipped to offer legal advice, counsel and direct representation for all individuals impacted by the Operation Lone Star program from pre-arrest through conviction and the appeals process. Currently, the organization is headed by Meenu Walters, who also acts as the managing attorney for Neighborhood Defender Service offices throughout Texas.
