Norfolk CARES
Description
Norfolk CARES (Career and Readiness Employment Services) is an initiative by the Norfolk Department of Human Services that uses a community-based approach to integrate human services and public safety. The CARES assists with finding employment or getting vocational training, assessment and referrals, case management, job readiness classes, job coaching, resume development and workshops. Eligibility for the CARES programs includes adults convicted of a recent or past misdemeanor or felony charge, a person between the age of 18-49 with no children on their SNAP case and no exemptions from work requirement (ABAWDS), youth or young adult transitioning out of foster care (17-24 years of age) and a non-custodial parent with a Department of Child Support Enforcement case with TANF debt. In addition, the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program Employment and Training (SNAPET) is a volunteer program designed to assist Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) participants in finding employment.
