Office of the District Attorney Richmond County ,Conviction Review Bureau

Description

The Office of the District Attorney Richmond County Conviction Review Bureau is a unit in the District Attorney's Office whose mission is to review wrongful convictions. A Conviction Integrity Unit reexamines past convictions with questions over the defendant's guilt or innocence. In addition to ensuring people are serving prison sentences for crimes they committed, these offices also identify areas where improvement is needed to avoid future mistakes. You must meet five criteria before your case can be investigated for your claim of innocence: First, the claim of actual innocence must be predicated on a factual matter, not a purely legal issue. Secondly, the claimant must proffer new evidence of actual innocence capable of being investigated and potentially substantiated; third, case records needed for re-investigation of the claim must exist and be available for review, fourth, the claim must not be frivolous; and lastly, the claimant must agree to cooperate fully with the unit. For more information on who is eligible, contact them directly. Please click here to learn more about what a Conviction Integrity Unit is.
