People’s Law Office
Description
The People's Law Office (PLO) is a community-based organization that fights for the civil rights of victims of police brutality, wrongful convictions, false arrest and other government abuses. PLO works to free wrongfully imprisoned people from prison and fight against the death penalty. In many of these wrongful conviction cases, PLO has been able to successfully sue the police for misconduct and civil rights violations and recover money damages. They defend activists who are targeted as a result of their political beliefs or organizing efforts on behalf of movements struggling for social justice and liberation. PLO has also succeded in uncovering secret abuses by police and government officials- including a torture ring inside the Chicago Police Department – and for forcing systemic changes in the justice system in Chicago. People's Law Office share their knowledge and experience by lecturing and presenting throughout the country and writing for civil rights publications.
PLO regularly represent clients in civil rights lawsuits against government agencies throughout the Chicagoland area including Chicago, Cicero, Dolton, Berwyn, Lyons, Markham, Waukegan, Streator, Cook County, DuPage County, McHenry County, Will County, Lake County, Bureau County and against the Illinois State Police and various Federal agencies including Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
