Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office Conviction Integrity Unit
Description
The Conviction Integrity Unit is a division of the Philadelphia District Attorney's office that considers claims of wrongful conviction. The purpose of the conviction Integrity Unit is to serve the Philadelphia District Attorney's office by looking into all formal claims of innocence. They first determine the credibility of assertions of injustice by providing a thorough inquiry for all requests wherein individuals offer trustworthy proof to support their claims of innocence, provide proof that they were wrongfully convicted or otherwise offer evidence of injustice while interacting with the Philadelphia justice system. Staff in the office determine the relevance of claims filed with the court and whether or not plea bargaining significantly impacted the final outcome of the case. Those claims of innocence that are affirmed by thorough investigation may lead the unit to advise the District Attorney to take further action.
