Solano Community College SOAR Program

Solano Community College SOAR Program

Description

The Students Overcoming Adversity and Recidivism (SOAR) program operates out of the Solano Community College campus. SOAR is a campus based organization committed to providing support and community for formerly incarcerated individuals at Solano Community College, as well as former and current foster youth, students experiencing homelessness and other students who face barriers to success in the college setting. One of the primary goals of the SOAR program is to eliminate the stigma associated with incarceration. Staff and volunteers understand the barriers caused by mass incarceration and advocate for a reallocation of funds away from correctional facilities and toward public resources. Those at SOAR believe strongly in the power of education to disrupt the cycle of recidivism and help individuals reach a sustainable, self-sufficient lifestyle. Questions about the program or specific services available to participants should be directed to Students Overcoming Adversity and Recidivism using the information on this page.
