State of Maine Treatment Courts

Description

The State of Maine Treatment Courts offer intensive, community-driven, court-supervised recovery services and strict accountability for qualifying individuals with serious chemical dependence and/or mental health treatment requirements who are involved with the criminal justice system or child protective services. The goals of treatment courts include: ensure community safety by reducing at-risk behaviors and lowering recidivism; address the root causes of criminal behavior among people with chemical dependence disorders and/or mental health needs; inform justice involved individuals and the general public about chemical dependence and mental health issues; increase personal, social and community accountability with participants; develop and improve positive and safe parent-child relationships; use limited judicial system resources equitably and sparingly. Participants within the State of Maine Treatment Courts receive individualized case-management and special consideration for the mitigating factors that lead to arrest and re-arrest.
