The Brooklyn District Attorney’s Office, Conviction Review Unit
The Brooklyn District Attorney's Office Conviction Review Unit (CRU) is a team in the District Attorney's Office that investigates wrongful conviction cases. In addition to reviewing cases in Brooklyn, the attorneys from the CRU share their expertise with other prosecutors' offices across the country. Its mission is to ensure fairness and public safety. Some of the services provided by their unit are reviews of the evidence. A Conviction Integrity Unit reexamines past convictions, re-interview witnesses, consults experts, and uses the most up-to-date science and technology to reevaluate the evidence. The CIU will only investigate your claim if you meet these criteria; the claim of actual innocence must be predicated on a factual matter, the claimant must proffer new evidence of actual innocence capable of being investigated and potentially substantiated, and case records needed for re-investigation of the claim must exist and be available, the claim must not be frivolous. Lastly, the claimant must agree to cooperate fully with the unit. For more information, contact them directly. Please click here to learn more about what a Conviction Integrity Unit is.
