The Starts Within Organization is a nonprofit that aims to reduce recidivism rates and address the negative impacts of incarceration. The organization provides strategic programming for incarcerated men, their spouse, and their immediate and extended families. The Walking Logo Reentry Program is designed for men who are currently incarcerated with 18-24 months remaining on their prison terms. Participants are educated and mentored to reduce recidivism rates significantly. Upon completing the pre-release curriculum and discharge from the correctional institution, participants receive clothing vouchers, housing and transportation assistance, employment referrals and continued peer mentoring for an additional 12 months. In partnership with the Ohio Commission on Fatherhood, The Father Within program is an eight-module series offered to both correction and community-based fathers of Richland County, Ohio. The curriculum educates and mentors men to become responsible, nurturing, and committed fathers. In addition, participants receive case management, job development, child support modifications, and driver’s license reinstatement.
