Travis County Diversion Programs
The Travis County corrections system operates several diversion programs designed to offer viable alternatives to incarceration. Participation in one of the diversion programs is at the discretion of the presiding judge, and individuals must demonstrate eligibility based on the specifics of their charges and previous involvement with the justice system. The Travis County Felony DWI Court offers a diversion program that includes close monitoring of the individual, including urinalysis, community support and treatment work. The Pretrial Diversion program focuses on assisting individuals who face felony charges unrelated to violent crime. These individuals may be given the option to participate in court supervised release so long as they meet the requirements of release. These requirements may include participation in treatment programs, ongoing mental health care or participation in educational programs. Travis County also maintains a Youth Offenders Diversion Program to help offer young people an alternative to incarceration and give them the best chance at entering adulthood without serving time behind bars.
