MARLBORO COUNTY, S.C. (WPDE) — An officer at a South Carolina prison was saved by inmates Friday after being attacked with a homemade knife.
The South Carolina Department of Corrections said the incident happened at Evans Correctional Institution in Marlboro County.
One inmate pushed the officer away from the attacker and two others helped her get away from the area while a fellow officer called for help, according to SCDOC.
Officials added several other inmates surrounded the attacker until help arrived.
SCDOC said the attacker was moved to another prison with pending criminal charges.
The officer was treated for her injuries and released from the hospital.
