ACLU Maine

The ACLU of Maine works to protect the civil rights and individual liberties enshrined in the U.S. and Maine Constitutions. Their mission is built to ensure that those who have historically been denied their rights are afforded the same protections as everyone else, including people of color, members of the LGBTQ community, prisoners, and Maine Native peoples. The ACLU of Maine works in the courts to ensure that your constitutional rights are being defended and protected, and civil liberties expanded.  Their priority issues include criminal justice reform, reproductive freedom, racial justice, immigrants' rights, LGBTQ rights, women's rights, voting rights, freedom of expression, freedom of speech and religion, and privacy. They specialize in impact litigation, legislative advocacy and education. The ACLU of Maine educates legislators about ACLU of Maine positions, drafts legislation on priority issues, lobbies and testifies on bills affecting civil liberties, work in coalition, and are newly tapping into Maine’s grassroots power to push for positive change and take on defensive battles in the community.
