ACLU Oregon

The ACLU of Oregon is an advocacy organization dedicated to defending and advancing civil liberties and civil rights through work in the courts, in the legislature, and in communities. ACLU of Oregon fights for free speech, racial justice, criminal justice reform, religious liberty, reproductive rights, LGBT rights, immigrants' rights, and more. They fight to preserve rights such as freedom of press, speech, assembly, and religion, and the rights to due process, equal protection, and privacy, are fundamental to a free people. They do it through activities that include litigation, education, and lobbying. They review all proposed ballot initiatives filed in Oregon and monitor those that would have an impact on civil liberties and civil rights. They also provide legal assistance in cases that will establish precedent on important civil liberties and civil rights principles. This most often involves the filing of “friend of the court” briefs in cases that are already on appeal. They sometimes provide direct representation to individuals or organizations whose rights are jeopardized by government actions. They do not take cases other than civil rights and constitutional violations. Use their use our Legal Assistance form to request legal help.
