Description

The mission of the Augustinian Defenders of the Rights of the Poor is to act as a bridge between providers, vulnerable individuals and community leaders across socioeconomic, political and religious identities. The organization works to achieve its mission by connecting individuals with identified needs to existing resources in order to create stronger, safer communities. Their Criminal Justice Accompaniment and Reform Program supports both currently and formerly incarcerated individuals as they navigate the challenges that impact their return to the community. Some of these supports are direct services, but Augustinian Defenders of the Rights of the Poor also prepares and delivers community education workshops that work to end the stigma associated with criminal conviction. Staff also connect with lawmakers in the region to advocate for more equitable criminal justice policies and sustainable support initiatives for justice impacted individuals.
