Better Together is a community based organization committed to keeping families together and helping adults reach financial independence. The Better Families initiative is focused on assisting families with children who are vulnerable to entering the foster care system. Staff hope to intervene in cases where neglect or abuse may occur, offering families the option to place children with host families for up to one year. Host families focus on caring for the children, while volunteers with Better Together assist adults reach a more sustainable lifestyle. This may include help entering a recovery program, assistance obtaining employment and guidance locating a safe, stable home environment. Their goal is to provide an alternative to foster care that helps families remain together long term. Additionally, Better Together operates the Better Jobs program which focuses on job development and placement for adults who face unemployment or financial insecurity. The goal of the program is to intervene before housing and food insecurity take hold
