Cal State LA

Section Title

Cal State LA

Cal State LA is an accredited public university which provides in-person classes to incarcerated individuals in the California prison system. It is also the first program of its kind to offer the opportunity for incarcerated individuals to earn a Bachelor's degree through face-to-face instruction while serving time in a California correctional facility. The Prison Graduate Initiative is a structure program that includes two course per semester, including summers, as individuals work toward a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies. Individuals who are released prior to completing the program may continue their coursework on the Cal State LA campus if they so choose. The university also operates the Project Rebound program, which helps formerly incarcerated individuals enroll in courses at Cal State LA. Staff for the Project Rebound program are formerly incarcerated individuals with first-hand knowledge of the difficulties many face upon release. For more information, or to enroll in either program, visit the Cal State LA website.
