Section Title

Genesse County, MI Public Defender’s Office

The Genesee County Public Defender's Office, located in Flint, MI, aims to ensure the state's public defense system is fair, cost-effective and constitutional while simultaneously protecting public safety and accountability. The Defender Program appoints counsel for defendants charged with a felony who are financially unable to hire an attorney of their choice. Approximately 100 local attorneys serve on the roster for felony appointments in the Circuit Court, and approximately 2,000 appointments are made each year. In addition, the office appoints counsel on paternity cases when the putative father is indigent, the misdemeanor population for the 67th District Court when indigency has been established, and contract attorneys in circuit court to represent defendants charged with probation violations, bench warrants, arraignments and extradition. The privilege of offering representation to those in need is why the law has offered public defense services. Don't hesitate to contact the Grand Traverse County Public Defender directly if you need further information.
