The Illinois Innocence Project (IIP) is dedicated to freeing innocent men and women imprisoned in Illinois for crimes they did not commit. The Illinois Innocence Project’s three-pronged mission guides their work to bring justice to the wrongfully convicted. The Innocence Project evaluates and investigates cases for credible claims of an Illinois incarcerated person’s innocence, and, when appropriate, provides legal representation and/or other assistance toward proving innocence. They provide education about wrongful convictions and important educational and experiential opportunities for undergraduate students at UIS and law students around the state. The Illinois Innocence Project (IIP) is dedicated to freeing innocent men and women imprisoned in Illinois for crimes they did not commit. The project advocates on behalf of this silenced population by researching and investigating claims of innocence, and providing legal representation and other assistance to prove credible claims of actual innocence. The Project is the only innocence organization in the country housed at an undergraduate institution and involves undergraduate students in hands-on innocence work.
