Innocence Project of Iowa

Section Title

Innocence Project of Iowa

The Innocence Project of Iowa was developed to provide legal services and advocacy for wrongfully convicted individuals. The organization is a registered nonprofit that is operated entirely by volunteer legal professionals, educators and students from the University of Iowa College of Law. The purpose of the organization is to provide sound legal advice, legal counsel and direct representation to qualifying individuals. All potential clients must qualify for the appeal of a conviction based on factual evidence to support a defense of wrongful conviction. Additionally, individuals must begin with an intake interview conducted in collaboration with the Midwest Innocence Project to identify eligibility and to determine the parameters of the case in question. Incarcerated individuals can request a review of their case by submitting a questionnaire through the mail, or have an attorney contact Innocence Project of Iowa directly on their behalf. The questionnaire and relevant documents are visible on the organization website.
