Inside Out Reentry Community

Inside Out Reentry Community is an Iowa-based prison reentry program that primarily serves people returning to Johnson County after incarceration with an aim to reduce the social stigma returning citizens often feel. Their goal is to support those involved in the criminal legal system and educate the public to promote healing, restore relationships and reduce recidivism. Inside Out Reentry Community's drop-in resource center helps returning citizens to socialize, get assistance with education, job and housing applications, HiSET(GED) and other tutoring, and general problem-solving. Their Mentoring program pairs a returning citizen with a community member for support, companionship, and accountability.  They meet every week for social time, skill-building activities (e.g., writing a resume), and/or discussing how your reentry plan is going. The Community meetings at Inside Out Reentry include workshops on life skills, self-awareness and emotional literacy, communications skills, and problem-solving, etc.  Small group activities, journaling, meditation, and other exercises are used along with presentations from speakers.
