Kootenai County, ID Public Defender’s Office

The Kootenai County Public Defender's Office is located in Coeur d'Alene, ID. Led by the Chief Public Defender, this office provides legal representation as court-appointed attorneys for indigent clients in criminal cases, including felony, misdemeanor and selected civil cases, as well as for juveniles in criminal cases, and children and their families in Child Protective hearings. Additionally, this office is sometimes appointed to represent those in post-conviction proceedings. If the crime for which a person have been charged carries a possible jail or prison sentence, the Public Defender can be appointed by the court to represent them. Public Defenders are attorneys appointed by the court. If you are out of custody, you may fill out and submit an application to the Kootenai County Court Clerk. But if you are in custody, an application will be given to you by jail staff before your first appearance.
