Life Beyond Bars is a community based organization committed to addressing youth incarceration and high recidivism rates. Their goal is to intervene with at risk youth before they enter the justice system, help inspire permanent life changes, lower the recidivism rate in the community and assist individuals who are reentering the community after incarceration. The mission of Life Beyond Bars is to stop young people and adults from entering the justice system, but also to help those who are justice involved make choices that will disrupt the cycle of reincarceration. They offer a number of programs to ensure that they are able to serve all individuals based on their specific needs. Young people receive assistance through referrals to community based organizations that offer alternatives to street life like band, dancing, music, STEM and conflict resolution support. Educational services include tutoring, assistance obtaining high school equivalency diplomas, trade school access and technology instruction.
