Marion County Conviction Integrity Unit

Section Title

Marion County Conviction Integrity Unit

The Marion County Conviction Integrity Unit is a specialized part of the District Attorney's office dedicated to ensuring justice. Their mission is to process all official claims of innocence. When those claims meet eligibility requirements, the Conviction Integrity Unit conducts a complete and unbiased investigation into the claims. Cases must relate to currently incarcerated individuals and refer to convictions handed down by the Marion County Superior Court. In addition, individuals must demonstrate innocence by presenting new evidence or a clear explanation as to how new technological innovation allows for important testing of evidence already presented at trial. Whenever possible, the Conviction Integrity Unit presents its findings to the District Attorney and makes a recommendation regarding further action. While the unit is mostly concerned with investigating claims of evidence, they will consider other claims of wrongful conviction and excessive sentencing when those claims are well supported by reasonable and credible evidence.
