The Massachusetts Committee for Public Counsel Services in Essex County has a Public Defender Division (PDD) Trial Office located in Lawrence, MA. With one Attorney-in-Charge, one Supervising Attorney, and eight Staff Attorneys, the PDD Trial Office represents indigent clients assigned by the court. The talented and dedicated public defenders in the PDD Trial Office provide high-quality, client-centered legal representation to needy persons of all ages accused of crimes, misdemeanor and felony cases. In addition, the office has additional Social Service Advocates. They serve as an integral member of the criminal defense team and works with the attorney, investigator, and other team members to prepare a client’s case and obtain the best possible legal outcome for the client. Furthermore, the Criminal Defense Investigators are also part of the defense team; the Lawrence Investigators work collaboratively with attorneys and Social Service Advocates. They locate and interview witnesses and clients, and discover, collect, and analyze a wide variety of information that may assist in representing their clients.
