The Massachusetts Committee For Public Counsel Services in Essex County has three divisional offices - a Children and Family Law Division (CAFL), a Youth Advocacy Division (YAD) SalemTrial Office, and a Public Defender Division (PDD) Salem Trial Office located in Hyannis, Massachusetts. The CAFL Trail office, with three Staff Attorneys, represents clients facing various felony charges. In addition, it's YAD's Trail office, with one Attorney-in-Charge, two Staff Counsel, and a Social Service Advocate, serves youth in the Essex County area, including the Salem, Lynn and Newburyport Juvenile Courts. YAD represents children in delinquency and youthful offender proceedings. Moreover, YAD provides effective representation in court, educational advocacy, and individualized referrals to community-based resources. In addition, YAD attorneys are available for consultation and court-appointed legal representation. Finally, in addition to the 19 attorneys, the Salem office staffs two Social Service Advocates and two Investigators. These advocates work together to provide the best representation to indigent clients representing Superior and District Court criminal proceedings throughout southern Essex County.
