Ministry of Hope at Swannanoa Correctional Center for Women

The Ministry of Hope is a community-based organization that offers various programs at the Swannanoa Correctional Center for Women (SCCW) in Swannanoa, NC. Their chaplaincy program raises funds to employ on-site chaplains that conduct religious services in the center's chapel and provide pastoral care and spiritual guidance to the incarcerated women. Their guidance and leadership are crucial to helping these women, many of whom struggle with addiction, abuse, and grief issues. The women at SCCW are within five years of release or parole and the chaplains offer them a sense of hope and real-world self-care tools to manage parenting, relationships, and employment with discernment and spiritual maturity. The Transitional Mentoring Program provided mental, emotional, physical and spiritual assistance to highly motivated women both during their incarceration and as they transition back into society. The “Read-Me-A-Story” Program allowed mothers to read and record bedtime stories to send to their children (along with the book), to be listened to over and over during their time of separation. The Ministry offers various other programs for incarcerated women at SCCW, too. Please contact the ministry to find out more.
