Section Title

Office of the State’s Attorney for Baltimore City – Conviction Integrity Unit

The Conviction Integrity Unit is a part of the Office of the State's Attorney for Baltimore City that investigates claims of innocence. The role of the unit is to serve as a branch of the Office of the State's Attorney for Baltimore City committed to determining the validity of claims of injustice by providing thorough investigation into cases wherein individuals provide confirmable evidence that they are innocent, show evidence of wrongful conviction or otherwise offer evidence of injustice related to criminal litigation. Staff in the unit consider the reliability of all eligible claims and whether or not plea bargaining impacted the outcome of the case. They first consider incarcerated individuals who have served a significant amount of their sentence. If claims are backed by concrete evidence, staff recommend that District Attorney reopen the case to determine if evidence of innocence merits further action. For more information, contact the Conviction Integrity Unit directly using the information provided on the website.
