Section Title

Orange County Conviction Integrity Unit

The Conviction Integrity Unit is an office of the Orange County District Attorney's office that identifies credible claims of innocence. The aim of the Conviction Integrity Unit is to serve the Orange County District Attorney's office as an investigatory arm focused entirely on formal requests for review. They first look into the reliability of claims of injustice by partaking in a complete inquiry for all claims wherein individuals present credible proof to support their claims of innocence, prove claims that they were wrongfully convicted or otherwise confirm examples of injustice while interacting with the Orange County justice system. Staff in the office determine the reliability of claims filed with the court and investigate whether or not plea bargaining has impacted the outcome of the case. Those claims of innocence that are proven during the course of investigation may conclude with a recommendation that the District Attorney reopen the case to consider whether or not evidence of injustice merits further action.
