Prison Books Collective

Prison Books Collective is a nonprofit organization in Durham, North Carolina that provides literature and resources to incarcerated people, free of charge, to support them as they navigate the violent and alienating American carceral system. Prison Books Collective sends materials to people in jails and prisons in North Carolina and Alabama mainly to male prisoners. They also have an extensive catalog of zines that are mailed across the country, which range from political to educational, artistic to self-help. Prison Books Collective also publish Words of Fire, a semi-regular collection of art, short stories, essays, and poetry by incarcerated people. They also advocate for prison reform on issues such as economic, racial, gender, psychological, and social oppression.
