Prisoners’ Rights Office Vermont

The Prisoners' Rights Office of Vermont is a state-operated investigative service focused on cataloging and responding to complaints. They also advocate for the treatment of incarcerated individuals and offer support for formerly incarcerated individuals who face barriers during the reentry process. This advocacy may focus on excessive sentencing, terms of confinement and community supervision opportunities for qualifying individuals. Prisoners' Rights Office of Vermont also assists individuals throughout the appeals process, as well as those seeking furlough. They coordinate with the Department of Corrections for individuals on parole and help determine eligibility for community supervision. When necessary, Prisoners' Rights Office of Vermont may intervene with individuals who violate the terms of their release, as well as with incarcerated individuals who require discipline while serving their sentences. For more information about available support services or to request assistance for a specific issue, individuals can contact the office by phone or by mail.
