Putnam County Conviction Integrity Review

The Putnam County Conviction Integrity Review is a division of the Putnam County court system that investigates claims of innocence. The purpose of the division is to serve as a liaison of the District Attorney's office dedicated to addressing injustice in the court system by giving due diligence to cases wherein individuals provide credible evidence that they are innocent of their charges, have been wrongfully convicted or have otherwise experienced in justice as part of legal proceedings. Staff in the District Attorney's office thoroughly investigate these claims, including whether or not a plea bargain affected the result of the case. They prioritize individuals based on how far into their sentence they are. Whenever claims are supported by concrete evidence, staff may encourage the District Attorney to reconsider the case to determine whether or not the county is housing an innocent person. Additionally, staff may recommend further action if they believe that the sentence handed down to a defendant is unnecessarily harsh or excessive.
