Queens District Attorney Appeals Bureau

Section Title

Queens District Attorney Appeals Bureau

The Queens District Attorney Appeals Bureau is a division of the Suffolk County court system that serves individuals seeking. The purpose of the bureau is to act as a branch of the District Attorney's office focused on claims of injustice in the court system by giving due attention to cases wherein individuals have filed appeals related to claims of innocence, wrongful conviction, violations of rights or unduly harsh sentencing. Staff in the District Attorney's office conduct investigations for every appeal filed to determine the validity of the claims and any relevant precedent involved. Whenever appeals warrant a new trial, staff may advise that the District Attorney revisit the case to determine what the appropriate action will be. This may include recommendations for a revised sentence or a new trial. However, not all appeals merit legal action and may be rejected by the court without trial.
