Section Title

Sacramento County Justice, Training & Integrity Unit

The Sacramento County Justice, Training and Integrity Unit is a subdivision of the District Attorney's office. The primary function of the office is to ensure that justice is carried out in all cases handed over to the Sacramento County District Attorney. In order to achieve this goal, the office conducts thorough investigations into all credible claims of innocence supported by substantial evidence not presented in court. The office also considers cases in which new technology allows for testing that was not available at the time of a conviction. The Justice and Training areas of the office focus on compiling evidence and informing policy designed to protect constitutional rights and prevent wrongful conviction whenever possible. Currently, the office is not equipped to consider all appeals, but does investigate claims of prosecutorial misconduct and claims of wrongful conviction. Individuals who have evidence of their innocence may contact the office directly or through an attorney to begin the integrity review process.
