The Stark County, IL Public Defender's Office provides legal representation to persons who cannot afford a private attorney and are charged with criminal offenses that may result in a jail sentence. With one Public Defender, the office reviews request for appointed counsel that used to be handled by the court and appoint attorneys to those cases that qualify. The office centers upon what is best for the client, including implementing best practices of reform, supervision, and expanded vision of the Public Defender Profession. While exercising its duties, the office is committed to fiscal responsibility and respect for all other professionals in the criminal justice system. The Sixth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution guarantees the rights of criminal defendants, including the right to a public trial without unnecessary delay and the right to a lawyer.
