The Door – A Center of Alternatives

The Door - A Center of Alternatives is a community organization that has served the New York City community for fifty years. Their mission is to uplift young people who face barriers to success by providing comprehensive and diverse services that meet the unique needs of all individuals. The Door provides a number of programs for youth in the community. The Bronx Youth center acts as a satellite location and offers programs to youth ages 16 to 24, including a food pantry, counseling services and a law clinic. The main location offers creative arts classes to encourage expression, counseling for individuals experiencing mental health crisis, support for youth in foster care, health services, vocational support and assistance obtaining a high school equivalency certificate. The Door also offers targeted support for LGBTQ youth, residential services and support for youth experiencing homelessness.
