The Inside-Out Prison Exchange Program

The Inside-Out Prison Exchange Program is committed to ensuring access to educational programs inside America's prisons. Their mission is to improve communication and understanding across diverse socioeconomic lines by partnering incarcerated individuals with students enrolled at partner institutions of higher education. These students enter correctional facilities and assist with the delivery of course material, a strategy which allows them to connect with students who are incarcerated and learn more about the complexities of the prison industrial complex. The organization also helps to educate the public via numerous resources, including podcasts and a video library, housed on the organization website. Community leaders and higher education students who are interested in becoming an instructor for the Inside-Out program can access information about upcoming training sessions on the organization website. Incarcerated individuals are also encouraged to contact the program with questions or for help coordinating the inclusion of Inside-Out programming inside their correctional facility.
