Veterans Justice Outreach Program

Veterans Justice Outreach Program (VJO) is an initiative by the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs and a component of VA’s Homeless Programs Office. The services are provided all over the U.S. The mission of the Veterans Justice Programs is to identify justice-involved Veterans and contact them through outreach, in order to facilitate access to VA services. VJO Specialists at every VA medical center provide outreach to justice-involved Veterans in various settings, including jails and courts. The VJO initiative is designed to help Veterans avoid the unnecessary criminalization of mental illness and extended incarceration by ensuring eligible justice-involved Veterans receive timely access to VA health care, specifically mental health and substance use services and other VA services and benefits as appropriate. If you need help, a VJO specialist near you can help to access VA health care services. A list of VJO specialists is available on the website provided. They do not provide legal services but can assist you to find a resource.
