Westchester County Conviction Review Unit

The Westchester County Conviction Review Unit is a subdivision of the Westchester County District Attorney's office. Their role is to function as an investigatory unit and serve in an advisory capacity to the District Attorney with a mission to uphold the office's commitment to justice for all. Staff in the unit evaluate all claims of innocence filed with the District Attorney for credibility and eligibility. Eligible cases concern currently incarcerated individuals who are serving time for convictions handed down by the Westchester County Superior Court, and which are not currently under review by the Appellate Court. Additionally, individuals must provide new evidence that supports claims of innocence, or demonstrate how new technologies can be used to provide testing on existing evidence that was not available at the time of the original conviction. Though their primary focus is claims of innocence, the Westchester County Conviction Review Unit does also review other claims of wrongful conviction and excessive sentencing when cases are accompanied by compelling evidence.
